'Tea Time' 2018
24x31" 5 layers for this print.
Tea or coffee is used to start the day but it never seems to stop.
Especially for creating.
By 1900, the average tea consumption per person in Britain was a staggering 6lb a year. But it's one of the extraordinary ironies of British national identity - that the drink that epitomises Britishness is not actually British at all and is the result of a complex imperial history. The American tea culture is a part of the history of the United States, as this beverage appeals to all classes and has adapted to the customs of the United States of America. Tea became a very popular drink in the colonies, and tea ceremonies were common among all classes. By the time of the American Revolution, tea was drunk everywhere from the backwoods to the cities.
However, tea and tea taxes became a bone of contention between the Colonies and Great Britian. This led to the 1773 Boston Tea Party, a precipitating event of the Revolution, when angry Colonists destroyed the tea cargo of three British ships by dumping them into the harbor. As a consequence, tea drinking became unpatriotic.

'Carbon Paper' 2006
24x34". 5 layers for this print.
My 12-year-old son doesn’t know what carbon paper is. Which just goes to show how much has changed in a relatively short time. Carbon paper is thin paper coated with a mixture of wax and pigment used between two sheets of ordinary paper to make one or more copies of an original document. You could find it in office typewriters everywhere well into the second half of 20th century. Despite its ultimate fate, carbon paper has made its mark on modern technology: That little "cc" you click to add recipients of your email message stands for carbon copy.
This authentic piece of carbon paper is over 40 years old and well-used. And now, carbon paper is obsolete. Dead, like wilted flowers, unless of course, you’re very creative.

'Printer and Keyboard' 2019
16x20". 4 layers for this print
After its invention in the 1860s, the typewriter quickly became an indispensable tool for practically all writing other than personal handwritten correspondence. Typically, a single character is printed on each key press. The machine prints characters by making ink impressions of type elements similar to the sorts used in movable type letterpress printing. Conceptually speaking, there is no difference between the old typewriter and today’s computer.

'Taking a Bath' 2006
24x30". 8 layers for this print.
On the one hand, it was denounced as an obnoxious toy from England, designed to corrupt the democratic simplicity of the Republic. On the other hand, it was attacked by the medical faculty as dangerous to health and a certain inviter of rheumatic fevers, inflammation of the lungs and other diseases. The controversy spread across America. Some cities taxed bathtubs. Others banned them outright. Meanwhile, politicians turned bathing into a class issue as only the very wealthy could afford to install baths. Eventually, the American medical profession began to regard bathing as beneficial or, at worst, harmless. When, in 1851, President Millard Fillmore had a bathtub installed at the White House, all opposition collapsed. Today it's a tool to get clean but also a hot soothing escape from everything and everyone.
